Education and knowledge outreach

Tourism is an excellent instrument for the dissemination of knowledge, acting in a practical manner in as well as transmitting powerful cultural realities. Its potential has just begun to be tapped and been the subject of many initiatives concerned with the spreading of cultural values, scientific thought, institutional content and knowledge in general. Many United Nations organizations such as UNESCO, UNDP, UNEP and UNWTO itself have included tourism in their programmes as an instrument for development, sustainability, and capacity building.

But tourism itself needs to disseminate its values, objectives, procedures, standards and norms. However, while hospitality education has a long tradition, tourism education in the broader sense is a newcomer. Tourism needs to get into a closer relationship with education, information and knowledge outreach, and the Ulysses Foundation intends to contribute to that goal in partnership with the relevant public and private institutions.

Thus, the Ulysses Foundation organizes and participates in courses, seminars, workshops, and outreach projects relating to both bridging theory and practice in tourism and using tourism as an instrument for the dissemination of knowledge.
